How do I buy funds?
What Is a Securities Account?
A securities account is a dedicated account where all your securities are recorded. All your purchases, sales, and transfers are processed through this account, and your holdings are managed there. You can think of it as a digital safe deposit box that holds your certified assets – your securities.
All fund units, shares, and other securities are stored in the account. The custodian bank is responsible for safekeeping and managing these securities. The custodian bank for Erste Asset Management is Erste Group Bank. If you don’t yet have a securities account, you can open one with Erste Bank – even online:

Tips for Choosing Your Fund
Before selecting a fund – either through our fund search or with your advisors – here are three important tips. Please note that investments in securities involve both opportunities and risks.
Most funds come in two types:
- Distributing: The distributing variant pays out part of the generated income (such as interest or dividends) to your current account on a specific date each year.
- Accumulating: The accumulating variant automatically reinvests the income back into the fund. You don’t need to take any action. This option is suitable for investors who want to invest their money for the long term.
On the fund web factsheet from Erste Asset Management, you will find the so-called ISIN (International Securities Identification Number). The ISIN is a twelve-character alphanumeric code used to identify securities. For example, securities from Austrian issuers begin with the country code AT for Austria.
Additionally, consider whether you prefer to invest a one-time amount or make regular payments over a longer period – this is also known as a fund savings plan.
If you regularly invest the same amount, you may achieve a lower average purchase price compared to a one-time investment. This cost-average principle is especially useful in volatile markets: when prices are low, you buy more shares; when prices are high, you buy fewer.
Please note: The cost-average effect diminishes over time. Eventually, your accumulated savings behave more like a one-time investment of the total amount. Depending on market performance, a one-time investment may also be more favorable. Investing in securities involves both opportunities and risks.
